Per due mesi di seguito abbiamo letto libri di persone che camminano, sara' un messaggio subliminale. Dopo vado a fare una passeggiata...
Inizio lento devo dire, poi si fa interessante e intenso.
Harold Fry riceve una lettera da una vecchia collega/amica che non sente da anni, Queenie. Lei ha un tumore e sta per morire e lui, invece di spedirle solo un messaggio di risposta come pianificato, si mette a camminare per andare a trovarla. Lei si trova dall'altra parte dell'Inghilterra e la camminata diventerà una specie di pellegrinaggio con lo scopo di prolungarle la vita. Queenie deve aspettare l'arrivo di Harold, questo è il pensiero che lo spinge a camminare un passo dopo l'altro.
Ma la camminata è anche un viaggio nel passato e nel mondo interiore di Harold e della moglie, I loro capitoli si alternano nel libro con due punti di vista all'inizio completamente opposti.
A me e' piaciuto, non e' una lettura facile da spiaggia e l'inizio, come ho detto, e' un po' lento, ma se si supera quella parte il libro e' decisamente interessante.
Anche le altre due ragazze del book club che l'hanno letto erano d'accordo nel ritenerlo intenso e che merita-
Consigliato.
Recentemente è uscito anche un prequel, che narra la storia di Queenie all'epoca della sua amicizia con Harold, penso lo metterò nella mia lista dei desideri.

For two months in a row we read books about people walking somewhere, it must be some sort of a message. I am going out for a walk later.
The beginning of the book is kind of slow, but then it becomes interesting and intense.
Harold Fry receives a letter from an old collegue/friend who he didn't hear for years, Queenie. She has a tumor and is dying and he decides to walk to go where she is, instead to send a simple letter. She is on the opposite side of England and the walk becomes a sort of a pilgrimage to try to extend her life. Queenie must wait for his arrival, this is the thought that make Harold to walk every step.
But the walk is also a journey in the past and in the inside world of Harold and his wife, their chapters are alternating with two point of view on opposite sides.
I like it, it is not an easy beach reading and the beginning, as I said, is slow, but once that part is over the book is really enjoyable.
The two girls of the book club who read it agreed with my opinion, this is an intense book but worth to be read.

Recently a prequel book was published, it describes the story of Queenie at the time of her friendship with Harold, added to my wishlist.

Questo è stato il mio ultimo book club in DC, in mio onore (avendolo consigliato), il mese prossimo leggono "La ragazza del treno". Dovrò trovare un altro book club per quando torno in Italia.
This was my last book club in DC, in my honor (because I recommended), for the next month they are reading "The girl on the train". I'll find a new book club to join when I am back in Italy.
